GROUP TENNIS LESSONS

We are excited to welcome all our View Ridge families back for summer View Ridge Youth Tennis Lessons! This summer, members will have the opportunity to register for each individual session throughout the summer or preplan and sign up all at once. We will be having five 2 week sessions throughout June, July and August beginning June 24th. Lessons are offered to both our View Ridge Members and Non-Members – priority for registration will be offered for our members first.

View Ridge will not be offering Friday match day this summer as a part of tennis lessons. Members, ages 9-18, have the opportunity to sign up for the VR tennis team for additional matches and practice! Please see the Tennis Team page for further details and sign-up information.

New this year – all tennis and swim registration and payment for lessons will be done online. Registration for tennis will be available earlier than ever (information and links below).

GROUP LESSON LEVEL DAY/TIMES & DESCRIPTIONS
VRSTC will offer five – 2 week sessions throughout the summer and will be divided into four age groups 5-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-18. Our class size within an age group can have up to 6 players. Class options are offered either on Monday & Wednesdays or Tuesday & Thursdays. Class times run between 10 am and 3:00 pm and each class duration is 1 hour.
_
(Below you’ll find high level descriptions of the levels. You can find detailed information on each of the course levels here.)
_
RED BALL (AGES 5-6)
Focus is on learning the fundamentals. Players will learn on a 36’ court and mini net using soft red compression balls. Players will learn how to contact, track and project tennis balls and begin to learn how to rally with a partner. Players must be able to focus and follow directions apart from a parent/guardian.
_
ORANGE BALL (AGES 7-9)
Building on the fundamentals. Players will learn on the 60’ court using orange compression balls. We focus on the fundamentals of groundstrokes, begin to direct the ball, and consistency of rallying. Additionally, point play will be introduced. Players will learn to make quick decisions about tracking the ball’s depth and reacting accordingly.
_
GREEN BALL (AGES 10-12)
Sharpening the fundamentals. While using green compression balls, players will learn how to build points through different singles and doubles point scenarios. Players will develop top spin, differentiate between a first and second serve, and use approaching the net to become well rounded players. This class gets players ready for match play.
_
YELLOW BALL (AGES 13-14, 15-18)
Expanding on the fundamentals. In Yellow ball, players will elevate their game by developing different tennis weapons – using a variety of angles, depth and various spins to create unique points. Along with technique, we expand into the mental side to allow our players to make quick decisions within the points that result in high percentage shot making and boost consistency within their game.

PRIVATE LESSONS

View Ridge Swim & Tennis Club allows its staff to teach private lessons. We feel that they are valuable in several situations such as:

  • A child who needs one-on-one contact with an instructor to become comfortable enough for regular lessons.
  • Scheduling will not allow for regular lessons.
  • Special needs children can learn with close contact with an instructor.
  • Older children and adults who do not fit in with younger children in class.

We feel that private lessons are never a substitute for regular lessons. Children learn best over time with other children.

  • Please pay in the office prior to the lesson.
  • More than 4 private lessons with any student must be approved by the manager.
  • Please make arrangements personally with the tennis coach. You can leave a message in the office to have them call you.

If you are interested in private lessons, please email tennis@vrstc.org or contact one of our tennis staff directly.

Non members please note: We are happy to provide swim and tennis lessons for members of our community. However, we ask that you honor this service by not using the facility except for your child’s private lesson. Thanks.
