Want to check out View Ridge Water Polo? It’s kind of like soccer but played in water and using your hands instead of feet and while wearing goofy/awesome caps. It’s fun, good exercise, super cool to shoot and score, and a great team experience. Football, basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling and swimming skills all transfer very well to this high action sport. Even if you’re not the best swimmer give it a try and you’ll be hooked for life.
One of the cool things about our water polo team is that it is open to both members and non-members. So invite and bring along friends! All boys and girls ages 7-18 are welcome, no experience needed as long as you can swim 25 yards and tread water for a couple minutes. We are especially trying to build our girls and 12 & under programs so invite your friends!
We’re looking forward to another fun season! We’d love to have you join us for some fun in the sun!
Hello View Ridge Water Polo family!
My name is Thor Tyson and I am thrilled to be returning to coach our View Ridge Water Polo program in 2025. I have coached water polo and swimming for 25 years. I founded the Roosevelt High School polo teams as well as the Blue Ridge summer team, coached the women’s team at UW and ran the year-round club, Rain City Water Polo, for many years. While I have scaled back in recent years, coaching summer league is not something I want to give up! It is my favorite venue for coaching because it is all about teaching and helping as many young players find the joy of competing in the fabulous sport of water polo. I had a great time last year and am even more excited about the upcoming season. For those of you returning, co-head coach Shelby Grant and assistant coach Will Gillespie will also be back this summer.
In previous years, View Ridge Water Polo has been limited to the month of August. While that is the official season and when games occur, we are expanding the practice schedule to provide a better experience and to make the program more accessible to those who may be gone for significant portions of August. So, please mark your calendars with the dates below. We will provide details about the specific start and end times for the different age groups as we get closer to summer. Please let us know if you have any questions (waterpolo@vrstc.org).
All members ages 6-18 are welcome to come join us. Non-members are also welcome to join depending upon space available (though we anticipate there being enough space). So, invite your friends! All are welcome as long as you are comfortable and safe in the water. Everyone must complete their “paperwork” (online forms available, see registration page for links) prior to hopping in the pool to participate. As long as forms are in you can give the practices a try for a week to see if you like it before committing to the registration fee.
